Flagship Projects
The Community Biogas Project
Clean Energy Project in Kanungu In the rural communities of Kanungu District, families still cook over open wood fires — a practice that drives deforestation, degrades air quality, and places a heavy daily burden on women and children tasked with gathering fuel. KKERI's Community Biogas Project addresses this cycle at its root by harnessing one of the most abundant resources in Uganda's cattle-keeping communities: cow dung. Biogas digesters are installed within households and community clusters..
The Kasese River Restoration Project
Kasese District sits at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains — one of Uganda's most biodiverse and ecologically critical regions. Yet its rivers, wetlands, and forests have been devastated by a combination of agricultural encroachment, brick-making, and uncontrolled deforestation. The result: flooding seasons that claim lives, destroy homes, and wash away livelihoods. KKERI's flagship restoration project targets the Rwembya and Nyamasagani River systems, planting thousands of native trees along..
Our Inspiration
Kenneth Kakuru was a Ugandan judge who served on the Court of Appeal from 2013 until his passing in 2023. He graduated from Makerere University, founded Kakuru & Company Advocates in 1987, and later established Greenwatch in 1995 to promote environmental rights in Uganda. Known for his fearless fight against environmental destruction, he led major legal battles involving wildlife protection and wetlands conservation. Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo praised him as fearless and incorruptible, while his deep love for nature was reflected in the trees and flowers surrounding his home and schools.
Founder & Executive Director
Rose is the daughter of the late Justice Kenneth Kakuru and the driving force behind the Earth Reboot Initiative. A passionate environmentalist in her own right, she has channelled her father's legacy into on-the-ground action — spearheading tree planting campaigns, disaster risk reduction efforts, and community energy projects across Uganda. Her work in Kasese has already captured national attention, with leaders and media citing her reforestation efforts as critical to flood mitigation in the region.
